Can't break paragraphs after MuseScore 3 update

• Jun 7, 2021 - 20:17

Hello, I'm doing transcriptions of Da Capo arias. Generally, they tend to come in two verses that I'd put at the beginning of the score. When I separate them, I usually press Ctrl + Enter in order to get an extra small gap between them, instead of pressing another Enter to make a large gap.

However, due to an unknown reason, MuseScore3 suddenly decided not to show on my screen, and since it's been a while since I've updated it (January 2021), I uninstalled it and downloaded it again. This time, when I opened up my old mscz files, the space I made by pressing Ctrl + Enter is now a huge and aesthetically unpleasant one (which would also force me to re edit everything).

Can someone please help me get that small separation back in this update ?

There was a bug in some former version of MuseScore where sometimes line breaks showed way too small. Apparently you got accustomed to that bug (that existed for a brief while, I think a few months), but it was never intended to work that way, and the bug was fixed some time ago. Now breaks always do what they were designed to do - a full line.

So, instead of needing to press Ctrl+Enter repeatedly to create a normal-sized break, just press it once. You will indeed need to fix scores that had been previously been adversely affected by the bug.

If you should want less than a full line between paragraphs, you can adjust the line spacing in the Inspector, or simply add two separate text elements.

If you need further assistance, please attach your score and say which text you are trying to change so we can understand and advise better,
