play

• Jul 15, 2021 - 15:01

I am not a composer. I sometimes copy a sheet of music to use it on my tablet. but I want to hear it play sometimes, and that does not work in MS 3.6. no problem with other applications, not even with MS 2. I have reset to factory Settings, I have removed an re-installed ... synthesizer and mixer stay disabled, play buttons too. soundfont Musescore_General.sf3 installed

From the link referenced above:
"In case of interference with other programs, esp. on Windows, go into your soundcard configuration from Control Panel and ensure that the Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device in the Advanced tab of both Playback and Recording is unticked."

Have you tried to re-boot the computer?

In the "Preferences" dialog under the I/O tab is a button that says "Restart Audio and MIDI Devices" Clicking this button often fixes audio not playing.

You can do many of them, including #8 - specifically, the part where it tells you to provide details about your OS, devices, settings, etc. it's important to follow the instructions in detail - not just for #8, but all of them. it could be missed detail in following one of the other instructions similarly prevented it from doing what it could have.

O.K. Thanks for the info., although instead of 3.6.548021803 you probably meant 3.6.2.548021803
Shoe size, though, is unimportant. ;-)
Good to know your version is up to date.

FWIW: Coincidentally, just today, this guy...

...had a (ok, a different) support issue, and so after reading instructions posted on other threads, creating an .mss style file, messing with his printer utility, etc. the solution was found 16 hours later by simply installing the latest version of MuseScore. Go figure.

So... Your issue appears to be more related to your particular environment/configuration; if not, this forum would be swamped with playback complaints.
Has MuseScore 3 (not MS 2) ever played correctly?
If you go to menu item: Edit -> Preferences... does your SoundFonts folder show the correct location?

Have you tried Edit -> Preferences... and on the I/O tab changing the API or device?
On the same tab, Restart Audio and MIDI Devices?

Have you seen (and tried) this:

I am not sure, but I think at first install the playback worked. long time ago ;)
I downloaded MuseScore_General.sf3 on several places (see attachment): nothing worked
I can swith on or off PortAudio, but API is disabled
and I clicked "restart Audio and MIDI Devices" many times: I saw no action or change

My problem seems to be solved, although it is very strange. when my box (sound) is switched on and headphone pulled out, everything works fine. I can plug in the headphone and switch off the boxes: no problem. but when I start the program with boxes switched out and headphone in: no sound, no synth, .. odd, no? (boxes brand = Trust, headphones Plantronic)
