Playback/Synthesizer Not Working

I was just writing scores as usual, doing the same-old-same-old, and when I went to use the playback to listen to what I wrote, it was greyed out and I couldn't click it. I followed some guides of how to fix this but couldn't find anything. I did a factory reset and that didnt work, and when I go to View, the Synthesizer tab is greyed out as well. I really just want to get back to writing my marching band arrangement of Czardas, it was gonna sound so good. :( Help me please.
