"MuseScore 3": two computers sharing the same folder

• Nov 15, 2021 - 16:45

Thank you for developing "MuseScore 3". It is truly excellent software.

By default, scores are saved to
"C:\Users\paulm\Documents\MuseScore3\Scores" .

But I have installed "MuseScore 3" on two Windows computers, which share the same OneDrive folder:
"C:\Users\paulm\OneDrive\Documents\MuseScore3\Scores" .
Therefore, if I create or modify a score on one computer, it's available on the other.

Are there any pitfalls to this practice …
1. … if “MuseScore 3” is used on only one computer at a time?
2. … if “MuseScore 3” is used on both computes simultaneously, working on different scores?
3. … if “MuseScore 3” is used on both computes simultaneously, and both users are VIEWING the same score?
4. … if “MuseScore 3” is used on both computes simultaneously, and both users are SAVING CHANGES TO the same score?

Thanks for your help on this.

I use the same approach, but using Google Drive instead of OneDrive. Same concept, same caveat - works great if you're reasonably careful. For #4, just be sure to only actively work on one computer at a time, and when switching which computer that is, reload on the new computer. To be safe, I'm also in the habit of closing the file on the old before switching.

Note the file synchronization may or may not as fast as you are, so after saving on one computer, it may be a moment or two or more before the change is available on the other. So it's a good idea to check the file date when reloading, and double-checking by looking for your most recent edit from the other system before continuing.
