Moving several measures of notes up in the score

• Dec 4, 2021 - 13:44

I have a very unusual score created in Capella-scan as an xml file. I have been opening, editing and saving it in MuseScore to clean up the descrepancies. I was very excited a few weeks ago when I found the Duration Editor plugin. However, it seems to only work for one measure at at time. The file I was working with has a serious flaw where after a time signature change to 3/4 in measure 59, Musescore somehow inserted a couple of eighth rests and moved all the remaning notes to the right. I was able to use the Duration Editor to correct some of the flaws (one measure at a time), but it does not move notes up a measure after deleting a trailing rest in the previous measure. I was able to slowly manually fix measures 59 through 62 but found it might be easier just to erase measures 63-81 and put them all back in. Is there an easier way? A seperate problem, the piece is also meant for a flute, SATB & piano but I am unable to change the Instruments, as they are listed as MIDI, all treble clef. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

"I have a very unusual score created in Capella-scan as an xml file."

The damage to this score must have occurred because the change back to a 3/4 time signature was missed out by the scanning process. You really need to repeat the scan, and then insert the missing 3/4 time signature before exporting to MusicXML. Or you could just rescan measures 63-81, if you have already put a lot of work into correcting measures 1-62.

" I am unable to change the Instruments, as they are listed as MIDI"
1. Right-click in a blank part of any bar in the relevant stave.
2. Choose Stave/Part Properties...
3. In the section headed Part Properties click Change Instrument...
4. Choose the relevant instrument (e.g. Woodwinds > Flute).
5. Click OK.

See attached score with instruments.

Thank you so much DanielR. That was an easy fix by rescanning measures 63-81, I should have thought of that but didn't. The first xml file from the scan had 3/4 time in some staffs but not others and some repeated in a couple measures. I had much difficulty getting that fixed to begin with, having to delete and then re-insert measures. Anyway, this fix only took a couple minutes. As far as the parts, that was easy as well. I did notice however that MuseScore used to have "Soprano/Alto" together as an option but does not anymore. I see how you got them together with a couple more clicks though. Thanks so much!

You can still find the S/A + T/B with:
File > New... > Choose template file > Choral > SATB Closed Score

There is also a choice of templates for SATB Closed Score with Organ or with Piano.
