Silent Slash Chords

• Jan 8, 2022 - 23:45

When I do piano parts, I like to use slash chord note heads to indicate on what part of the beat I want the associated chord, but the note that the note head is on, also sounds. Is there a way to silence the note itself, so it doesn't sound and just the chord symbol sounds?

When using the built-in slash notation feature, the notes are silenced automatically. But as mentioned, you can also do this manually using the Inspector. The other useful thing the built-in feature does is set a "fix to line" value so the slashes are always on the same line regardless of clef changes or transposition, and it also suppresses any accidentals that might otherwise result. So highly recommend to use that feature rather than trying to "roll your own".

Not a comment on the posting as such, but a question. Your time of posting is showing as 15:14 - though as I'm now replying it's showing as 14:14. If GMT it most likely was 14:14. Is the web site showing time in a different time zone? Odd!! It's not even a US time zone. Even odder - it's now showing as 14:14 - so is there some anomaly for this site - or a browser issue?

I made the post at 7:14 AM MST, which is I believe is 14:14 GMT. On my system, the time for the post shows as 07:14, so clearly, it's displaying in local time. Apparently a glitch either on the site or on your system caused that to be displayed incorrectly for you, then somehow the problem fixed itself.
