Writing multiple whole notes in a bar

• Jan 14, 2022 - 19:08

Hi,

I have a notation question. I would like to write out scales for example a c major scale as whole notes where all the whole notes are in one bar.

Is there a way of doing this in musescore?

Many thanks

Al

I can think a few ways to do it.

  1. create a n/1 time signature where n=number of notes required in the bar. n whole notes will fit in the bar.
  2. start with s 4/4 bar. Right click in it and in measure (or bar for GB localisation) properties adjust the actual duration to 4 x n.
  3. use a 4/4 time signature and enter whole notes in each bar. Then make the bar lines invisible
  4. like 3 but instead of making the bar lines invisible use CTRL+DELETE to completely remove the bar lines and join adjacent bars

I am sure there are even more ways to do it, but I'll leave it to others to think of them.

The way I do it and recommend is to use 4/4, enter the whole notes, then select measures you want combined and use Toos / Measure / Join Selected Measures. This is more or less the same as 3 above until of the effect, but you can combine them all in one step.

While you're at it, you can also right-click the staff, Staff/Part Properties, and disable display of time signatures.
