Copy out an embedded image file - is it possible?

• Jan 17, 2022 - 16:50

I created a score with an included image file. Is it possible to save an image file from such a score which has an embedded image file?

Obviously I can go back to my original image file - but as it is on a different machine I simply sent the score with the embedded file to myself, and it would be very convenient to retrieve the file from the score file, rather than having to move back to the other machine and send it to myself again.

Thanks. I had to be quite devious to extract the image - but it does work. In MacOS using a Terminal and "unzip" will uncompress the components, and the image will probably be put in a folder called Pictures - with a very long gobbledygook file name. Then search with the local Apple search for that file, move it where it's wanted, and rename it.

So yes - it's possible.

Might be easier in Linux.

Probably depends on which version of Linux and which file manager and archive manager you are using. In my system I use Dolphin to find the MSCZ file, rename the file with a ZIP extension, right-click and open with Ark, then navigate within the Ark window to pictures and the long, gobbledygook name. Right-click on it and options given in Ark's menu include Open with..., Rename, Extract, Copy (and then you are prompted for a Filename when yo go to to paste it).

OS: Ubuntu 21.04, Arch.: x86_64, MuseScore version (64-bit): 3.6.2.548021370, revision: 3224f34
