Why is the height of my 8th notes so short?

• Jan 31, 2022 - 11:21

Hello, hope you are doing well.
I have a problem that my eighth note are always coming out so short and I've been trying to format each of them longer but cannot bulk edit and the work is really tedious. See attached photo for reference.
Is there a solution to this problem?
Many thanks and best regards

You shouldn't need to adjust all of the eights - most of the ones in your example are fine as is. Just a few are, subjectively speaking, shorter than most professional engravers would make them, like the ones in the top staff in measure 12. If you click the beam, the up/down cursor keys move it in 1/4 staff space increments (because the rules of music notation require this alignment), so 2 clicks up or down should move by half a staff space, which is the amount those seem "off" to me.

The beaming rules have been improved for MuseScore 4, so in the future this shouldn't be necessary.

Hello Marc, thank you for your tip! Unfortunately I've been already doing that so much that sometimes I really need to rest my right pinky! X)
I usually need to click the beam 2-3 times higher or lower depending on the direction of the stems.
So it is really great to hear that this will be improved in MuseScore 4! can't wait. :)
