Real-Time input anomaly

• Feb 8, 2022 - 01:22

When using the real-time input feature, I noticed the previous note will changes values after initially showing correctly.

Example: I have a time signature of 6/4. I'll use my synth keyboard to enter in three half notes. The first and second half note will look fine. But when I enter in the third, the second will change from a half note to two quarter notes tied together. Here's a visual:

First and second notes enter in fine.

When I enter in the third note, the second one changes values for some reason.

Anyone know how to fix this?

That's not necessarily incorrect. One traditional way of notating 6/4 is as 3+3 0 with the mid-measure shown in this fashion. This is basically the same as why in 6/8, you don't normally notate three quarter notes, but instead show the middle as two eighths tied - to clearly show the second "big" beat. For 6/4, there is no one rule that is as universally followed, but the one MuseScore follows is pretty common.

In any case, MuseScore needs to figure out your rhythms and notate them correctly according to standard rules, and that's how it treats 6/4. If this is just the occasional syncopation and you're OK with blurring the mid-measure like that, you can simply change it later by selecting the first note and changing it to a half. If you wish to show three half notes consistently, maybe better to call it 3/2.
