Classical score navigation is reasonably complex at times. And often the combination of Repeats, Voltas and Italian navigation is succinct, adequate and readily comprehended.

But I wish MuseScore also had a repeat system that extends beyond the ancient classical methods.

For instance, in jazz, blues, popular music, rock and roll, folk music, country, lots of dance styles, there are known sections of 4 8 or 12 bars (though sometimes sections with “crooked” structures.

These sections are usually simply labled, A, B, C …

The most common section repeats are often easily described as:

       AA BB AA BB

  or

       AA BB (2x)

But there could be any number of sections:

AA BB CC BB AA BB CC A

… in any imaginable order.

I think Musescore is famously brain dead on this type of navigation.

It offers no markers for denoting the beginning and ending of an A or B or C or D section, there’s no place to list the order of sections (as demonstrated above), and no mechanism for playing such repeats. And often there's no to use classical navigation to achieve a result that might simply be described as:

AA BB CC BB AA BB C A

… that is, not without writing out more of the sections.

Might be time for a new set of tools. Music has evolved since AA BB A B coda.

Thanks for considering!
