Do not want 8th rests or notes

• Feb 27, 2022 - 20:19

Sorry I could not find my old post to add to this one so I started another:
As mentioned before I do not want any 8th notes or rests. The quarter note in the picture use to be an 8th rest but was able to change that one to a quarter rest, this next one WILL NOT let me change it to a quarter rest. The sad part is not only will it NOT Let me change it to a quarter rest it puts 2 more 8th rests and 2 quarter rests in the next measure, why?

Someone thought I had to many measures and it left no room for anything but 8th rest so I deleted many measures and I still can not do more quarter rest. At some point I may need 8th rests or notes but not now how can I prevent 8th rests or notes from popping up? Even if I start from the beginning with my first note then the next 2 are a eighth and a quarter. The 8th I can change to a quarter rest but then the quarter rest that was there turns into a 8th with no way to get rid of it see below. NOT FOUND: 8th rests.jpg

Please read the last reply from @marc_sabatella to your earlier question on the same topic. https://musescore.org/en/node/329914.

Also read this https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/note-input
particularly this bit

"As you enter notes in a measure, the measure rests are changed to appropriate rests to fill the remainder of the measure:"

Then if that does not help, please attach the score (.mscz file not a picture} you are having problems with.

Do you realize you have not entered a quarter note? You have entered a "dotted" quarter note. the dot represents an extra lenght corresponding to half the lenght of the quarter note, i.e. a eighth note. This only leaves room in the measure for another eight note and a quarter note. Until you add more notes, these will be rests.

As mentioned below. according to your picture, you entered a dotted quarter note, which lasts for one and a half beats. You are in 3/4 time, so that's three beats total, so that leaves another one and a half beats of rests. So MuseScore shows you exactly that - an eighth rest and a quarter rest. The proper order for them would be eighth first followed by quarter, but you've changed it to something incorrect. MuseScore allows it, but if you intend to leave those as rests, you should put it back the way it was, eighth then quarter. Or, if your intent is to replace those rests with notes, then don't worry about the rests at all, they disappear as you enter the notes.

But of course you can't change the eighth rest at the end of the measure to a quarter rest. That would add up to three and a half beats - more than the time signature allows. You can only have three beats in a measure in 3/4 time.

As mentioned, you may wish to read the Handbook and/or watch the tutorials to learn more about how note input works. Then if you continue to have problems, please attach your actual score *not just a picture) and explain in more detail what you want to do, and how you are trying to do it. Then we can understand and assist better,
