Notes selected to not play still play

• Mar 21, 2022 - 23:32

I have an alternate melody rhythm for 1 bar, The first bar of [B] in the attached.
I have made that staff small.

I tried selecting that whole bar and disabling play but no joy.

I then selected each individual note in that bar separately and disabled play.

Result: they still play.

I may not have described the problem properly.

I want to output the file as an mp3.

I want to stop the 1st alternate bar from sounding while playing. I can make a note that the bar does not sound on the repeat but is a part of the piece in notation.

However, that bar plays every time through. I want to supress it on export.

Yes. I hear both the triplet and the 2 quarter notes in the staff below. I hear the full bar.

Ah! I had been listening to the score, not the mp3. The mp3 does not play that triplet bar.

Now I went back to the score and lo and behold, it did not play.

It is possible (because I cannot remember) that I had not rebooted the program/computer and that may have been the cause??? At any rate it is suppressing those notes now.

Thanks for your efforts.

Glad it's working now!

I think the most likely explanation is a bug somewhere in which certain changes to the score don't trigger MuseScore to regenerate its MIDI data right away. I think sometimes "undo" can have that effect - like if you type a chord symbol, then go back and edit it, then undo the edit, you still hear the edit. At some point some other change causes MuseScore to regenerate the MIDI data and all is well again, and if nothing else, closing and reopening the score always will. We know about that undo of chord symbol edit bug, but perhaps there is some other similar bug involving the Play checkbox.
