Can I create staggered tuplets?
I've been having a hard time using MuseScore 3 to notate some Thelonious Monk melodies.
Example 1 ("Brake's Sake") has three notes of equal length whose total duration is a half note, but the first of the three stars on the "and of three", meaning there isn't enough space in the measure for all of the last one. Three notes of equal length need to start precisely on beat 3.5 of a 4/4 measure. I think it should look like two quarter notes, then two tied half notes, with a beam saying "3" over all notes. I can write it on paper, but not in MuseScore, and a wordy description may complicate things.
Example 2 ("Nutty") has seven equally spaced notes in the space of 4 1/2 beats. Again, the time signature is 4/4. I can create 7 notes spanning all four beats in a measure, but don't know how to start those seven notes on beat 4.5 of the previous measure and have the last one end right at the end of the measure.
A simpler way of asking might be this: Does each tuplet have to be confined to one measure? If not, at what points in a measure can a tuplet start?
