Changes to midi file are not reflected after exporting.

• Apr 1, 2022 - 18:14

After I make a one note change to as existing midi file, then export it as a midi file, the change does not show up in the existing midi file. I am using a mdi file stored on a flash drive.

  1. I open the midi file FINAL.MID, using "FILE" then OPEN.
  2. I then make a one note change on the music sheet.
  3. I then use FILE, EXPORT, then select EXPORT TO MIDI. then click EXPORT.
  4. I then go back to the original file location and select the original FINAL.MID and then click SAVE. In answer to overwrite, I select YES.
  5. If I close all this out, and then re open the original midi file, it has not changed.
    Thanks for your help!

Which note specific did you change that you feel is not changed in this file? And how did you change it? Is you examine the file in your operating systems file browser, does it show as having been modified? Are you sure that's the exact copy fo the file you are opening the second time - eg, you aren't just relying on "recent files" which could be opening a different copy?

I have checked every file, and can't seem to get it to work. The note I changed is in the 4th measure. I am careful to click that note to start to be sure I don't start at the beginning of the piece with my change, but when I look at the file using "wordpad", I notice that a lot of the characters are not in the beginning of the copy. I should tell you that this midi file is for a Syndyne Pro Filer sequencer that I am trying to change a wrong pedal note on the organ. I can get a changed copy of the MIDI file, but it will not play on my sequencer, because I believe there are a bunch of characters missing.
Thanks again for any help!

It’s not clear what you mean when you say you “checked every file” - do you mean you literally examined the time stamp of every file on your system? I doubt that :-). It remains the case that the most likely explanation is that the file you are opening isn’t not the one you saved. Perhaps make a screen capture video showing every step along the way - from the moment you load the file to to the moment you navigate to the folder containing the modified file and open it and show the change isn’t there. Probably we’ll be able to spot where you are going wrong. Be sure the video shows the full pathnames of the folders you are visiting so we can verify the file you are opening is truly the same copy you saved.
