using a midi keyboard with musescore
I have an old Roland midi keyboard that I'd like to use with musescore. Only problem is that it has the old 5 pin DIN connector. But I think I can get a DIN to USB adaptor. Has anyone had experience doing this? I'm running musescore 3.6.2 on Win10.
The other related question is, making an assumption, can you add notes in real time against an internal metronome? I wondered if anybody would share their experience with that. How well it works, etc.
If anybody can suggest recent youtube videos about this subject, I'd appreciate it.

I've used MIDI-to-USB cables before and they worked fine, but it's been many years.
Real-time MIDI input isn't really that viable, though. Yes, you can use the real-time mode as documented in the Handbook under "Note input modes". See the video listed at the end of the page - it's older, but I think the best demo there is. Anyhow, it works, but it's quite limited, because MuseScore wasn't designed for real-time input processing, plus it's just inherently impossible to sort out issues like which hand players what, how to handle use of multiple voices when notes overlap, etc. Generally step-time input is more accurate and also more efficient.

Thanks. Yes, I understand the complex issues. For now, I stick with entering notes as I have been doing with mouse.

You can definitely do way better than mouse, though - entering via the computer keyboard is much more efficient.
