Chord playback

I don't want chord playback, but none of the ways of getting rid of it in the online handbook work. What can I do to get rid of chord playback?

Comments

The methods in the Handbook definitely work; I use them to disable and re-enable playback all the time. Which one(s) did you try? And at which step in the process did something go wrong?

The simplest is usually to uncheck "Play" in the Inspector for one chord symbol, then hit the "Set as style" button ("S" icon) to turn it off for all chord symbols in that score.

I am unable to diagnose the lack of chord playback on my latest score. It is set up consistent with the many others I created. Every other score plays the chords??? It is a jazz lead sheet to which I add Ted Greene chord diagrams, so pretty straight forward. I have checked the following:

  • To disable/enable playback of version 3.5 or later scores: Check/Uncheckscore/harmony/play/disableNew (default is unchecked, playback)
  • Tick/Untick Format→Style...→Chord Symbols→Play.
    • Select a chord symbol or Nashville number
    • In the "Chord Symbol" section of theInspector check/uncheck the "Play" box.
    • Click on the associated "Set as style" button (to the right of that box, you may need to scroll a bit)
    • checked mixer for mute & volume level
    • To turn the sound of the symbols on/off when editing:
    1. From the menu, select Edit (Mac: MuseScore)→Preferences...→Note input. 2. Check/Uncheck the "Play chord symbol when editing" option.
The melody line plays as expected.

What are the next steps I should take to get the chords to play? Thank you

You shouldn’t need to do any of those things. Chords symbols always play by default in newly created scores, unless you’ve messed with your settings in a way that disables this. In understand what you might to disable them in this particular score, we’d need you to attach it. Also tell us how the score was created - did you start from a template or what.
