What is the cursive E above the first bar line?

I'm transcribing this for Distributed Proofreaders. I'm not going to try to transcribe the German cursive. I barely get by with German print.

I want to be as accurate as possible. Do any of you know what the cursive E above the first bar line means?

It looks like only part of the song is there. I'll insert it for accuracy, but there's nothing for it to repeat from. Oh well. It's an illustration, after all.
