Enlarging the score

• Sep 5, 2022 - 10:14

My left eye is bad. So I need a larger score which can be achieved by "Staff Properties/Scale"with a value larger than 100. That works. I would like to make this change part of the "Format/Load style-file" which would be convenient. Is that possible ?

Rather than using the staff properties you can make everything bigger by increasing the staff space scaling in Format>Page settings. The default is 1.75 mm and represents the distance between two staff lines. Everything on the page is scaled in proportion to that size.

As mentioned, don't use staff properties - this produces unbalanced scaling of one staff only, rather than the nice consistent scaling of everything that you get from Format / Page Settings.

The Modified Stave Notation article mentioned is old but still very good, even if some details have changed. Lots of things you can tweak to create more readable scores.

If you are mostly creating scores of a single type - like solo pianos scores - then instead of messing with style files, better to save your score to your Templates folder. Then it's available for selection every time you create a new score.

But if you are regularly creating scores of different instrument configurations, or need to load the style into existing scores, then indeed, Save / Load Style is good. You can also set a style file to be the default for new scores, in Edit / Preferences / Score
