Note appearing directly above bass clef

• Sep 9, 2022 - 13:15

I'm writing a French horn part so switching between bass and treble clef. The latest bass clef I added to the stave has an odd property, in that if the note next to it is a B above the stave or higher, it sits directly above the clef. Is this expected behaviour?

Can actually recreate it from a blank score:

  1. New score, choose instruments, add French horn (it may well work with other instruments too, haven't tested that)
  2. In bar 2, put a semi-breve that fills the bar on the B below middle C.
  3. Click on the note to ensure it's selected.
  4. Click on the bass clef in the clef palette.

Note appears as per the image.

In my own score I noticed that if I save and re-open it then the note seems to appear as normal next to a large bass clef, but deleting that clef and adding it again results in the note above the clef again.

The Musescore 3 guide says to select a note or rest; that's also the only way you can get a clef change part way through a measure.

edit - in fact it gives both methods; it should detect that the first note is selected and treat it as the measure having been selected and insert the large clef before the bar line.
