What are these little box on the score

• Sep 14, 2022 - 15:16

I am trying to figure out what this(picture below) is in the muse score app but I couldn't find any clue what this is and can't remove it. Please tell me what this is and how to remove it. Thank you.

They are not little boxes, but minus signs. In the first bar (a "pickup" measure) this is likely to be deliberate but the others are probably unintentional or undesired. They indicate that the bar has less notes than the time signature states, either because you imported the music from another source or deleted something or (less likely) the score has become corrupted.

As mentioned, they mean the measures have too few beats. You'll need to add the beats back via measure Properties. If this was the result of a PDF import, probably there are lots of other errors as well. If you're not an expert MsueScore user, expect it might take longer to correct the errors than to simply enter the music normally. But if it's just a few measures where you accidentally removed beats (eg, using Ctrl+Delete), it should be easier to fix.

These marks don't print, BTW, they are like the symbol indication system breaks, just there for your information on screen. If you wish to turn them off, see View / Show Unprintable
