Musescore recognises MIDI keyboard but doesn't work with it

• Oct 8, 2022 - 18:38

When I go into settings, it shows my MIDI keyboard selected (Arturia Keylab Essential 61) but when I actually play the keyboard, nothing happens.

The MIDI input toggle is on, and I have tried reverting to factory settings and uninstalling and reinstalling, none of those worked.

It should work normally. Which operating system you're using? The most beginner's mistakes are, that they have first to connect the midi keyobard and then to start MuseScore, and they have to be in the note input mode for entering notes. Maybe attache a screenshot from the I/O settings in preferences. Maybe it makes also sense to press the button "Restart Audio and MIDI Devices"?

It's possible your keyboard is not sending MIDI "note off" messages when you release the key. You could test this by first entering a note normally (eg, with the mouse or computer keyboard), then, without leaving note input mode or otherwise changing anything, play a key on the MIDI keyboard. If it adds the note to form a chord with the first note, that's the issue. You'd then have to consult the documentation for the keyboard to see if there is a setting to allow note off messages to be sent.
