Staves

Hi
How do I add an additional staff above the existing staves to accommodate a solo part for part of the piece?
Sorry if this has already been answered bu I haven't been able to find it.

Add the staff through Edit Instruments, then after adding the notes, right-click it and use Staff/Part Properties to set the "Hide when empty" option to "Always".

Thank you Marc. But how do I set the additional staff above the existing Treble Staff rather than below it? That said, I may have stumbled on the answer by making the new staff custom tablature. Is this the best way? I note that when going back into the edit instruments screen it has reverted to Standard!

Add a TAB staff only if you really want a TAB staff and be sure to not add a linked staff (that is needed only when you want two different representations of the same music - e.g normal stave + TAB). For a soloist you would just add the instrument with its default stave type by selecting it in the left-hand pane of the instrument dialogue and pressing "Add to score" (ringed in green in the picture below). The ordering of instruments can be changed in the Instruments dialogue. There are standard orderings - such as orchestral, marching band etc. available in the dropdown in the top right-hand corner (ringed in blue in the picture below). Or you can set up your own ordering by selecting instruments in the right-hand pane and moving them up or down with the arrows on the right (ringed in red in the picture below).
