cutting and pasting single notes with lyric
When I copy/cut two or more notes with words, I can paste them and the words stay intact. If I copy/cut one note with a word, the note is pasted but the word is not. I have to rewrite the word, which is an inconvenience.

I'm not sure what that implies. One note is a range of one, but for some reason it does not include the word attached to that note. I am suggesting that it should. If it works out that there is a rest after it and I can paste it so it works out, I often do that.

A range selection is the one with the blue rectangle. If you only see the notehead highlighted, then you have note fully selected the chord and attached things of that notehead (so the stem for example, or the duration is not selected).
Make sure you're selecting the entire note with a blue rectangle around it, and not just the notehead only.

One good way to do that is Shift+click the note (assuming nothing is already selected).
