MS4 crashes on startup
I just installed the release version of MuseScore 4 through Muse Hub, and when I tried to start it up, the splash screen shows up, but quickly disappears, and the actual program never opens. Looked in Task Manager, and it seems that the MuseScore process never even appears.
In case it helps, I'm using SteelSeries Sonar through GG 28.2.0, running on a system with Windows 11, 16 GB RAM, an Intel Core i7-12700H processor, and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080. Not sure how much of that is needed, but I figure to try and provide the information now rather than need to be asked for it later.

Did you ever run a development version of MS4?

I never did, no.

Well... Same problem here 👋🏼
As you can see from the screenshot, it opens and closes instantly.
Do you have any VST plugins installed on your system?
Also, could you please upload the contents of the
%LOCALAPPDATA%\MuseScore\MuseScore4\logs
folder? (To get there, copy-paste that path into the address bar in Windows Explorer)In reply to Do you have any VST plugins… by cbjeukendrup
Sorry, just saw this. I spoke with Martin Keary about it, and one of his suggestions, switch to the default audio device for my system and start MS4 up again, worked like a charm. I'll play around with the audio devices themselves a little more, get some more details, and report the bug when I get the chance.
But yeah, I can do that. The first few logs I got (the ones I'm uploading) are all different attempts that ended in a crash.
And yeah, I have some VSTs—EW Play, Kontakt 7, and some Native Instruments stuff (BBC Symphony Orchestra Discover and Spitfire LABS)

Switching to the default device worked for me, too - thank you!

I did have one of the beta versions of Mu4, had downloaded some of the sound fonts and had this same problem. Yesterday, I deleted the program and reinstalled (Windows 11). It seems to work fine now but I have not reinstalled any of the sound fonts.
I have the same issue, splash screen shows up and disapears without opening program. This thread would not let me attach the ".log" files but I was able to save them as ".txt" and they were able to be attached. See attached recent log file along with one in October that worked.

I tried setting the default to all 3 of my sound output devices and rebooting one at a time and still it Mu4 will not go beyond the splash screen.
OUH OKAY. I found a fix, I have the steelseries GG application and have been messing around with the sonar lately, try turning off sonar from:
Settings > General > Sonar
make sure it's switched off, then, without restarting try and launch your musescore. It should work <3

I have a similar issue with a crash on start up, OS is Windows 11. I have a few output devices. Built in Monitor speakers (never use), A Creative labs katana V2 soundbar (USB) to replace speakers and a separate USB DAC for headphone audio. When I'm using the Katana soundbar, Musescore 4 will not open (crash on start up). USB DAC is fine, no issues.
If any logs etc will help identify the issue please let me know what is needed and I'm happy to upload.
Please note, the issue is still occurring on the latest version.
Happy to share logs or whatever.
