Musescore 4 significantly slows down Windows 10

• Dec 15, 2022 - 07:03

Hi,
I noticed that while I am using Musescore 4, Windows starts to stutter and freeze for short periods of time when using Musescore 4. This problem persists even after closing Musescore 4 and requires a restart to fix completely. The more I use Musescore 4 in a single session the more noticeable this becomes.
Any ideas?

Check your windows error reporting log. Chances you will see something there. I uninstalled mine after seeing that every time I run (works fine) and exiting, the app triggers an error as if the app crashed on windows ie the app doesn't close correctly and windows 10 hates it.

Hi everyone,
I have just installed Musescore 4 on my Windows 10 music room desktop. I experienced the same problem. The programme works OK for a little while, (though rather slower than version 3, and I'm struggling a bit to find my way around the interace !), then audio playback begins to stutter, and the programm struggles, and a pop up banner at the top of the screen informs me, "Musescore is not responding" before the banner eventually disappers, and the programme responds again. However, the stuttering almost immediately recurs.
Rebooting the whole computer helps for a while, but the problem returns as editing continues. Either the programme cannot cope, or the computer cannot handle it! The big downside is that the saved files from version 4 cannot be used in version 3. I'll await further news on version 4's progress! With thanks for any comments, solutions, upgrades etc.
Best regards.

I noticed errors with v3.6 on Windows 10 where certain features just stopped working if you had the program open for a while - even deleting measures was impossible until you restarted the program.

I doubt that these issues will be cleared up quickly. MS4 limps on a new i7 laptop with 16GB - I think the new layout engine and other UI elements are going to need a lot of performance optimisation.
