New to MuseScore. Haven't figured out how to make a fermata

Newbie yes. Dumb? Nah.
Select a note or rest and click on the fermata in the articulations pallet.
Then click on the newly set fermata and open the inspector. There you can set a time stretch factor for the fermata.

I tried that & I don't see a fermata. More odd, yesterday there was a down-bow sign (looks a bit like a fermata). Today it isn't there anymore. Muse4, recent download. Bug?.

Sorry, my answer refers to MS 3.6.2. I don't use MS 4 until now and didn't know that you have a problem with MS 4.
MS 4 has only been released for a few days and may still have several bugs.

The down-bow does appear when I don't select a note but disappears when I do, because it's not a bowed instrument. Makes sense, Still no fermata, though

In MU4 the fermata has moved to the Breaths and pauses pallet. See https://musescore.org/en/handbook/4/breaths-and-pauses

That's a rather intuitive change! I always thought it should be there with the breathmarks and caesuras.
