Can I transfer Musescore 3 scores into Musescore 4?
Is there a way to transfer the file into the new software, or do I have to reinput them by hand?

MS4 will open MS3 scores. But not the other way around. Make sure you save the file with a new name.
Start MuseScore 4.
Use menu item: File > Open, then navigate to the folder where you keep the MuseScore 3 file, and open the score in MuseScore 4.
When done, you can save it in your MuseScore 4 file folder.

what if my MS3 scores are saved on a different divide that cant handle MS4 is there a way to access my MS cloud on MS3 or would I have to find a different way to share them

Scores saved with Mu4 won't open with Mu3, so you'd need to keep the Mu3 scores rather than overwriting them.

You have the choice. This is open source. You can compile the thing yourself.
The MS3 files open without any doubt in MS4.

Yeah I figured that out. The open dialog was pointing to folder MuseScore4, not MuseScore3.
Building from source may be an option for someone who knows what they are doing. I don't. I got as far as installing git, cloning the source files, installing cmake, installing Qt, then got a lot of error messages I didn't know how to correct. So yes, I'm stuck with the appimage. Flatpak would have been a better option. At least the runtimes are shared amongst applications.

Maybe. But you need to install Flatpak first (depending on the distribution - Ubuntu does not have it installed by default), while for Appimage, you don't need to install anything (mostly..)
(Ubuntu will even stop Flatpak standard support from 23.04)
Ubuntu users (maybe) will tell you that Snap is the better option.
But IMHO, for a project as MuseScore, Appimage is the only viable choice.
Is there a way to collectively convert all MuseScore 3 files to MuseScore 4 without having to do each individually?

No.
However, this happens automatically when you open a Musescore 3 file. You do not need to convert in advance.

Yes, I am aware of that but have to do each individually and then save to the v.4 format. All my scores are in v.3 and having got a new laptop, I thought there might be a way to convert all my scores collectively. Thank you for your reply. Guess I just have to go thru the tedious task of individually converting each.

It's no trouble at all, you have to press two buttons: confirm that you want to open the Musescore 3 file and then save it. You don't even have to save it, it also plays in Musescore 4.
And you only have to open it if you want to edit it. And you can also have Musescore 3 and 4 on the same computer.
