Sonatina Symphonic soundfont doesn't match the instruments on MuseScore

• Sep 21, 2014 - 20:09

The only instrument that sounds the same in Sonatina Symphonic soundfont is piano, but I'd like to have other instruments as well (violins etc.) Most of the instruments don't produce any sounds and some of them produce completely different sounds, such as solo violin makes a drum sound. What to do?

Edit:
I'm using MuseScore 1.3 on Windows Vista.

Yes, that is because this soundfont is not General MIDI - compatible. It's missing a huge number of the necessary sounds, and the sounds it does have are not numbered correctly according to General MIDI. So if you wish to use this soundfont or any other non-GM soundfont, you'll either need to edit the soundfont (using soundfont editing software) to reassign the patch numbers, or edit instruments.xml in MuseScore to tell it about the patch numbers used by the soundfont. The default version of this file is located in the "templates" folder under wherever you installed MuseScore; when you save your customized version, give it a new name but use Edit / Preferences to tell MuseScore where it is.
