To be more precise:
- it's not an issue with a particular score, as I can systematically reproduce the issue by creating a new score.
- RENAMING the instrument in the Instruments tab does not update the instrument name in the mixer.
- REPLACING the instrument in the Instruments tab or in the Staff/Part Properties popup does update the instrument name in the mixer to the preassigned instrument name.
- REPLACING the instrument in the Mixer does not update the instrument name in the Mixer, but I suppose this is on purpose to allow any sound to be assigned to an instrument regardless of the instrument name.
- Also the instrument name that's applied to the MIDI clip name when exporting MIDI is the name that appears in the Mixer, not the name that appears in the Instruments tab. To be clear, the MIDI file names correctly inherit the Part name, but the clips inside the file don't inherit the intended name. Say you have 2 piano parts and you want to label them "Piano Melody" and "Piano Chords" or something like that. When you import the exported MIDI into a DAW you'll get 2 clips named "Piano" and "Piano 1".
Hope this helps to clarify the issue.
It would really be nice if the staff names in the mixer were able to be the same as they are in the Instruments list. I understand they are in the same order that I have them but when working with so many staves not having to count and then hope I'm right would be nice. So if I change an instrument name to "Blue" it would be nice if the mixer window would reflect this. I used to in V3
