Detailed MuseHub install procedure, still not a MS4 instrument option Ubuntu Linux 20.04

• Dec 28, 2022 - 21:54

What I've done & seen:

MuseHub software not installed
Checked /srv - empty
Deleted /srv
Created alternate MuseHub storage, external HD /oflow, subdir MuseHubSounds) as a symbolic link using "ln -s /oflow/MuseHubSounds /srv". I'll refer to that location as MHS.
/srv - present
Checked subdir MHS - empty

Downloaded the Muse Hub .deb package from musescore.com
Installed with "GDebi Package Installer" main menu (just a convenient way to install a .deb)
Ran Muse Hub from main menu.
Now subdir MHS has files, but no instruments
Chose 'Harp' instrument. During download, got popup error as seen below. Went about analyzing what was going on, but when I returned to desktop, the download continued then finished.
Now subdir MHS has new folder MHS/muse-hub/downloads/Instruments/Muse Harp
Checked /srv - still empty except for link to MHS
Chose 'Choir' to add to sounds - succeed no error
Subdir MHS has new folder MHS/muse-hub/downloads/instruments/Muse Choir

Checked Muse Hub program's setting for "Sounds install location" - it shows "/srv/muse-hub/downloads"
(I think it was now I) started MuseScore4 AppImage. Created a score with harp, soprano, alto, tenor
Tried to activate/select MuseSounds via View->Instruments and the Mixer - No MuseSounds seen
Restarted computer
Changed permissions on MHS subdir
Started MuseScore4 (version info: 4.0.0.223472159, revision 5485621)
No MuseSounds

Have a look here: https://musescore.org/en/node/340426
Perhaps change
/var/lib/MuseSampler/.config
with the correct path to the instruments
I have in this hidden file (default)
/srv/muse-hub/downloads/Instruments/
I admit i didn't test changing the path.

Do you have
/usr/lib/libMuseSamplerCoreLib.so ?
What does
Diagnostic/MuseSampler/Check Musesampler say in MS?

If you don't have anything there, you probably can find the library in
/srv/muse-hub/downloads/Installers/something/musesampler-linux-xxxx.tar.zip

/var/lib/MuseSampler/.config - contents correct
/usr/lib/libMuseSamplerCoreLib.so ---- ABSENT
Found (in essentially) /srv/muse-hub/downloads/Installers/8c14fcf0-F06a-40a7-a530-227eb382c84a/musesampler-linux-0.3.2.18.tar.zip
Open the .tar.zip, found the absent file, extracted
As superuser:
Moved to /usr/lib
"chown root libMuseSamplerCoreLib.so" and "chgrp root libMuseSamplerCoreLib.so"
Started up MS4,
Sampler detected.
Now in Mixer, can see and reassign each part to the MuseSound.
Playback OK.
I did notice a change in the 'quality' of sounds, and needed to specifically assign dynamics to all parts, as the playback was much software with the MuseSounds.

Wanted to attach audio, couldn't. Curious that in MS4, export to .MP3 shows 2:01 length of audio, but only seconds for heard audio... It plays back silence? Hmm.

Much appreciated. Long time coming to get this to work.
