Cannot assign keyboard shortcuts to num pad on Mac

I prefer to use the numeric keypad to change duration when entering notes on a score (like Finale's speed note entry system). MuseScore will not allow me to assign keyboard shortcuts for note durations to the numeric keypad. Even after I set them, they only work if I tap the number keys above the qwerty keyboard.
