Allow Diagonal on Lines

• Jan 8, 2023 - 04:05

In the previous version of MuseScore, I could use the "Inspector" to "allow diagonal" on lines. I don't see that option on the MuseScore 4 Properties. I need to be able to change the angle of a line with two hooks (piano pedal marking) to use as a "placing" symbol for harp music.

I just ran into this problem as well for piano pedaling. “Allow diagonal” is missing and the handles won’t move vertically.

You need to create your own symbol. Select the notes you want the line to extend over (click, shift+click), then click on the straight line (no hooks) in the Lines Palette. Select the line you just added and go to Properties tab. Select a Start Hook and an End Hook. If you want the hooks to turn upward, put a negative sign in front of the Start hook height and End hook height number. This new symbol will be able to move diagonally. You can make adjustments to the hook height and thickness. I also uncheck "Auto-place" so it doesn't interfere with spacing.

After you create this, drag it into one of your Palettes so you don't have to keep creating it. To drag it into a Palette hold down ctrl and shift at the same time and while holding, drag your new symbol into a Palette. (Make sure the symbol is not in "select" mode when you drag it into the Palette.)

Hope that helps.
