emailing to another computer
I have MuseScore 4 on my laptop and PC. After creating a work on my PC and saving it. I wanted to continue on the laptop while in another location. I have found that sending it by email it defaults back to version 3 and therefore cannot be opened in either version. Please advise.

As mentioned, email is incapable of changing the version of a score. But it could be the computer you sent the file to simply doesn't have MuseScore 4 installed, or has been set up to open MSCZ files in MuseScore 3 by default. Make sure MuseScore 4 is installed on the destination computer, and open the score directly from within it (File / Open).
