loudness of instruments

How does someone change the loudness of an instrument? For example: as I enter notes, the trombone is barely audible, whereas the flute or clarinet can be hear clearly.
Another issue is that the number pad isn't working for entering duration amounts. I used that feature in Musescore 3 all the time. Is there something that I am not seeing so that this feature founctions?

Thanks for your response.
Using MS Basic sounds, all the instruments are somewhat equal in loudness. When I am using Muse sounds, the trumpets are very hard to hear, tuba is fine, very little trombone. I would like to hear what I am entering without having to adjust the loudness in the mixer. As for the number pad, it doesn't make any difference if the numlock button is pressed or not.
Any suggestions?? Not sure what to try next.

I also think the tuba is louder. But then, you know tuba players.
And the trombone is softer. No problem with the trumpet. That's the point. Everybody"s system is different. That is what the mixer is for. Pull down the tuba and/or adjust the others as you se fit.

I don't use the number pad. I thought I saw a way to fix it. You might run a forum search.
