Replicating an original score, how to adjust the beams and make it look more similar?

• Feb 8, 2023 - 12:18

I'm trying to replicate Steve Reich score as shown in the image below. The more relevant things to me are the ones pertaining to tempo (and not those related with expression e.g. crescendos, legatos, etc.).

I was able to get to a working draft (see atached mscz file as well as the image below) with precious help from @underquark and @msfp (https://musescore.org/en/node/342490), but I'm unable to solve some issues, primarily those related with changing the beam properties (the item numbers are reproduced in red on the below shown score):
1- is it possible to eliminate the bracket only for this second line, ie, leaving the one on the first stave line.
2:8 - these are all beam-related. I need to make this look exactly as the original score but I'm unable to go further;
9- this issue is related to those measures with only a repetition signal: how can I make these bars smaller, so I can fit the full stave in 2 lines?

Finally, if anyone has any idea on how to make it overall more similar to the original, I'd be grateful.

Thanks in advance.

> eliminate the bracket

maybe related to #320662: Request to be able to hide system brackets individually
i would do:
create fake bracket image, eg capture transparent .svg https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/image-capture
remove all brackets, insert one fake bracket https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/images

congrats you discovered musescore's infamous 16278 #16278: Beaming notes over barlines and line breaks
workarounds:
- master palette > tremolo
- master palette > symbols > beams group
- insert a custom image file https://musescore.org/en/node/16278#comment-1039151
- my take : use custom time sig 13/16 and hide the notehead and stem. but reseting back to 6/8 afterwards causes another problem https://musescore.org/en/node/310612 , see workaround by @jamescook_.

try turning down scaling instead https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/page-settings#scaling

Bonus
make one measure invisible https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/measure-operations#properties
