Problem with breath mark

I tried several times to insert a breath mark in my scores. From the Properties panel, I've set the time stretch to 1, 1.5, then 2 seconds; however, only the "bar" following the score (I am not sure what it's called) stops for the designated amount of time, while the playback carries on as if the mark didn't exist, while simultaneously prolonging the first note of the new measure almost as if it was a half note instead of a quarter. I am not sure why this happens and if it's an error on my part.
