Playback and color issue for Out-of-range notes: silent during playback AND out-of-range colors are not showing

Example: Add Soprano 1 instrument. Add notes C5 G4 B3. Try playback. Any note below middle C (C4) does not sound in the playback, and the out-of-range color indicator does not show on the staff.

I've tried changing the pitch range settings in the voices. Sometimes that works, and I can get the playback. Other times it does not work.

Color problem: Score does not show the out-of-range color indicators as it did in v3, and I do have Edit > Preferences > Note Input set to Color notes outside of usable pitch range.

Changing the range settings in staff/part properties doesn't affect playback at all, just the color coding.

If the sound you are using doesn't support the notes you are writing, you can switch to a different sound - eg, alto instead of soprano,or just use MS Basic.
