Issue With Clarinet in Bb and Bass Clarinet in Bb Sound Fonts

• Mar 4, 2023 - 08:10

I have been utilizing MuseScore 4 for a bit of time now, and have come across an issue repeatedly with the Clarinet in Bb and Bass Clarinet in Bb sound fonts. As it stands, there is a crackling sound occurring specifically (for me at least) above concert B4. This, overall, is a minor inconvenience, however it does get quite annoying after awhile. These issues also present themselves in a different way for the Bb Bass Clarinet sound. After a 3 bar crescendo the sound begins to crackle (specifically on concert G3). Then, after a 1 bar decrescendo, it begins to crackle after every first bar of crescendo for the next 12 measures.

I have read some other threads and there is a repeated sentiment of checking your system settings and specifications, as they may not be in line with the required settings for Musescore 4. However, I have checked and my specs fall within the range between recommended and required for my CPU and are far above the recommended for RAM as well. I have tried all three buffer sizes within the score preferences and 3 sample sizes within the advanced settings for my headphones (2 channel, 16 bit, 32000 Hz, 2 channel, 16 bit, 44100 Hz, and 2 channel, 16 bit, 48000 Hz respectively)

Any help would be greatly appreciated

My results with your score.
My system is far, far less powerful than yours.
No crackling in the bass clarinet. However, in general, dynamics and hairpins tend to be ignored. Starting with the opening measures. Re-entering them did no good. Re-creating one of the parts in a new score worked. About the only time I see this happen is in a score originally created in other software.

I assume you have an SSD. An audio interface has been the final piece of the puzzle for me. Except for my one computer that does meet specs. It doesn't need the interface.

I just typed out an arrangement of the Seal Lullaby out on Paper for 6 Part Flex Band & when the Bass Clarinet was supposed to play a Concert Eb4 at measure 63 on the Dynamic Piano after 2 measures of not playing, it sounded as E4 so musesounds needs another update.
