Diagnostics pull-down menu does not retract simply

In a moment of curiosity while looking for solutions to my 4/4 = 7/8 issue, I clicked on the Diagnostics pulldown menu. After I discovered that its content and function was well beyond my pay grade, I tried to click somewhere, anywhere, to get it to retract. It did not. After searching around, I tried to close the score. This did the trick, but at the risk of losing any saved data. This is so janky. Please advise further.
