Can't Joins Stems With A Beam

Hi, I'm having trouble joining 4 quaver notes with a beam? 2 quaver notes join themselves automatically, and I know that 4 quavers can all be joined with a beam because sometimes it'll do it and sometimes it won't. The first photo shows the 4 notes are all connected and the second photo shows that they're in groups of 2 instead of joining
