Musescore4 midi i/o, playback issues

• May 6, 2023 - 15:06

Not sure if this is a bug but thought I'd ask here after spending a great deal of time searching for answers.

Musescore3 works well with my Yamaha mx88. Note input is fine, as is playback. There is no lag.
Musescore4, so far, is quite disappointing. While the interface is fresher, it seems things are missing.

In this case specifically, the I/O menu in MS3 included the ability to use my keyboard in PortAudio, as well as MIDI input/output.

In MS4, the only options I have on my Macbook are Built-in output, System Default, or HDMI.

While I'm a highly technically capable user, I'm not as familiar with sound/midi. Either it works for me or it doesn't, so I'm not sure where to troubleshoot, or if this is a problem that is being worked on.

I'd appreciate any feedback as I paid for MS4 and would like to use it. But MS3 is what's working with my rig.

I can't help with the playback issues. It works OK for me (ususally) and I don't connect midi devices.

However, you say "I paid for MS4". How? and Why? All versions of MuseScore are free and there is no way to pay for them even if you wanted to. The latest version is freely available here https://musescore.org/en/download. You may have paid for a subscription to MuseScore.com the score sharing web site. Such a subscription allows you to download non-PD scores, but has no impact or connection with the way the MuseScore notation editing program works. See https://musescore.org/en/faq#faq-20657.
