Corrupted File After Change Breath Pause Length

• May 7, 2023 - 00:27

I was just changing the length of a breath mark and my entire file became corrupted. The error is receive is:

Error=XML_ERROR_EMPTY_DOCUMENT ErrorID=13 (0xd) Line number=0

Now I cannot open my music file...

The error message is probably spurious - people have posted examples where the score IS empty and others where the end of the file is missing. I think yours is the latter.

I used an ubuntu command-line zip tool and managed to extract the .mscx file. If you are using Windows or Mac there are tools to do this for those operating systems.

The .mscx file is too large to attach to a post so I opened it in MS 4.0.2 and saved it as a .mscz file.

Is the attached file OK?

Any ideas why this occured? I know it happened after editing the length of a breath mark pause time.

The error:
Error=XML_ERROR_EMPTY_DOCUMENT ErrorID=13 (0xd) Line number=0
has been reported multiple times in the forum, with some scores salvageable, others not.

It would be great if you could provide 2 scores, for example:
Whitacre, Eric – WHEN DAVID HEARD before.mscz

and then precisely describe your edits, keystrokes, etc. to produce the corrupt score:
Whitacre, Eric – WHEN DAVID HEARD after.mscz

Hey, so this happened again. Could you provide instructions on how you fixed the last one so that I can try that fix moving forward if it continues to happen?

Also, would you be able to try to fix this one for me? Same error occured.

EDIT: I was able to recover a OneDrive saved version. Still curious how I can fix this. Sorry I never got around to replicating that issue in your previous comment. At this point, I don't think I can replicate that same error.
