This file does not contain any music files.
The only chance is to find a (hidden) backup copy in the hidden folder '... /Assessment/.mscbackup'.
Maybe you need to modify some operating system settings to make these folders and files visible.

Found it. The file is corrupted and cannot be opened. Does this mean it's a loss?

Maybe. Share the file for inspection

Here's two files that seem corrupted. I would appreciate if you can inspect. Are there any hints for preventing this? (good backups on a different drvie, probably?)

These are backup files already, what about the 'real' ones?

The 2nd even is a 3.6.2 score
Both open just fine, once the trailing comma got removed from the filename

Not really. The official way is via MusicXML ex- and import. The inofficial way is via extracting the mscx from the mscz

That works. thank you.
After a seemingly intact ZIP header it contains nothing but zeros

It contains "META-INF/container.xml" but that is not useable. The remaining 22kByte are zeros, yes.
Either there is a backup or it is a total loss.
i was able to recover the file but it is an old version - i am going to just restart - thanks for the help
