extra beats added to a measure
Somehow the attached file got 8 beats in measure 2. I don't know how it happened and I can't get rid of it

Since there isn't much going on in that measure, it might be faster to range select the measure and Tools/remove selected range. The add a new measure and re-enter the notes.
Most likely, you either entered "Insert mode" using the dropdown next to the note input icon, or you used Tools / Measures / Join selected measures, or you used Ctrl+Delete to remove a barline. If you wish to delete the initial beats, select them and hit Ctrl+Delete. If you wish to split the measure in two at that point, use the corresponding command in Tools / Measures.

And be careful what you ctrl+del as it affects the piano and guitar parts.
