Support Playback 'Scrubbing'

• Jun 15, 2023 - 18:16

I have loved the way MuseScore has developed throughout the years- I use it everyday for work. However, I have also used Finale 27 quite at bit (It's very tedious to use- I personally don't enjoy it that much). The one feature that I do enjoy about Finale is the ability to 'scrub' through playback of the piece (apparently Sibelius and Dorico have something like this now as well). This is normally done by holding down a set of keys (e.g. Option+Space) and this will play the notes of whatever your cursor is hovering over. This is extremely useful in many circumstances, and would be a fantastic tool for composer, arrangers, and transcribers alike.

I do know of the few work-arounds attempting to emulate this (like setting the tempo something like 1bpm and basically clicking around) however this really is not worth the effort and is very, very bootleg. I also understand that there is a plugin that has been created to make this trick easier to pull off (unfortunately only for Windows- I use a Mac). I still think that a proper implementation of this would be the best answer.

I also understand that the people working on this project have been very busy trying to make VST3 stuff actually function- Which is no small task -So adding scrub right now may not be the best time- but once that has all been worked out, MuseScore's playback engine will be on par with everyone else so perhaps it wouldn't be as difficult (I'm not a programmer so I really don't know)?

Thanks again for all that you do,
Adam

I think the closest there is are the scroll bars. Bottom and side. Though they don't show up until you try to use them.
