Mixer will not work for alto and bass voices

• Jun 29, 2023 - 20:20

I am trying to play back where I make alto (or bass) voice loudest and the others softer, but when I use the mixer (expanded with right arrow) to set the mixer to do so, there is no effect on the playback. Alto always plays back at the same volume as Soprano, and Bass always plays at same volume as Tenor, regardless of mixer settings.

I have read other similar threads and think I have everything set up correctly. I have a closed SATB score, with the S/A and T/B texts applied. Soprano is on voice 1 channel 1, Alto on voice 2 channel 2, Tenor on voice 1 channel 3, Bass on voice 2 channel 4, and the chords (shown as "harmony" in the mixer) on channel 5. I have expanded the mixer using the right arrows. Notice that moving the Alto or Bass mixer up or down does not affect playback. I am using version 3.6.2.54 (My computer is too old to upgrade to version 4).

Eventually I would like to export to mp3 once I can make Alto prominent and the others in the background. I am hoping that if I get the mixer to work then the export will also work.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Doens't look like you applied the S/A properly. You can't just type the text, you need to use the actual palette entires. Or change the staff text properties manually.

@agutride
Carefully compare the hidden S/A and T/B on the attached score with your visible S/A and T/B elements. If you right-click one of the hidden versions and choose Staff Text Properties, you will see that the channels are set up differently from your visible text elements.

You need to use only the special "hidden" versions from the Text palette (only in MS3 - but unfortunately not yet available in MS4).
