Two voice duplet

• Jul 15, 2023 - 11:01

I am trying to enter two voice duplets with different rhythms in the same bar. See bars 2 and 4 of the attached (ignore the second bass clef crochet in bar 1 which should be dotted). The time signature is 6/8. I can create a duplet for the relevant bar, and correctly enter voice one notes, but cannot find a way to create the correct duplet in voice 2 of the same bar. If this is not doable, is there a workaround or plug-in? I am using 3.6, but the same problem arises in 4.1.

Hey there! Not 100% I understood what you mean, please see attached file. I have two tuplets in two different voices, which I think is what you explained you want to do, but they are not different rhythms... Could you please be a bit more specific?

I am also not sure I understood what you want. Why do you think there are duplets? Your PDF shows nothing of the sort.
I would interpret it that way and missed some rests to get a full 6/8 measure:
MuseScore 3_ Untitled_ (2).png
Green shows voice 2, the green rests can be deleted and the blue ones of voice 1 can be hidden.

They are duplets, but not expressly shown as such. The extract is about 130 bars into the piece where duplets are interspersed with 6/8 bars, but until now only in one voice, and so not a problem.
Your suggestion would not play for the correct duration. All I want to do is to replicate bars 2 and 4 of the original attachment, as duplets as originally composed so that they both look correct and play back correct. Thanks

Off topic, I know. Looking at bars 78 and 79, I'm wondering why the decision was made to not produce 79 in 6/8. I know the goal here is to reproduce the music as presented. Assuming it is accurate.
For that matter, why isn't 78 in 2/4?
Yes, you want to reproduce what is on the page. A real player may or may not produce what is on that page. They get to do that. That's what makes it music. To that end I just wonder what difference it makes if bar 79 is in 6/8 or 2/4. And of course, not just those measures. The composer/publisher made certain decisions. But the player is the final arbiter. In a sense someone trying to put music into MuseScore is a "player", also. Especially if you want playback to work.
