Can't swap triplets (or other tuplets) from one voice to another

• Aug 1, 2023 - 17:05

Not sure if this has been reported yet but I'm running into it a lot right now (noticed it last night but didn't make the report until now). Lmk if I should open a github issue or if there's already one there.

Issue: I can't change triplets (or any other tuplet) from voice 1 to voice 2 (or to voice 3/4 as well). Same thing happens if trying to go from voice 2 to voice 1, and so on.

Steps to replicate:
Open Musescore 4
new score
choose instruments
piano
click done
select any measure
(screenshot of these next steps provided below) as voice 1, input any rhythm that includes both normal notes and triplets (or any tuplet)
select the entire measure
press ctrl+alt+2 OR the UI button for voice 2
only the normal notes have changed to voice 2 and the triplets remain as voice 1

Indeed, it's a known limitation with tuplets and swapping voices (by pressing ctrl+alt+2 OR the UI button for voice 2)
The way to achieve your goal is: menu Tools -> Voices -> Exchange voices 1- 2

It's tucked away because in normal usage this would not be a common thing to do. Normally if you want notes in a particular voice, you just enter them there to begin with. So I just wanted to make sure you were aware of how to do that - simply select the voice you want after entering note input mode but before entering the notes. Then the notes go there directly. Changing notes from one voice to another does come up from time to time, but nowhere near as often as the things that are on the toolbar.

Yes, thank you for that! I normally do select the desired voice before I start but sometimes forget to select it again after exiting and reentering note-input mode. Often I won't realize I'm back to writing on voice 1 until sometimes measures later (but normally I notice before then). I just didn't know there was another way to swap lines between two voices (the exchange voice option). Thanks again!
