Failure of NEW Musescore 4 installation

• Aug 8, 2023 - 00:17

Hi :
My NEW request for your help (GREAT as before!) is RELATED TO A DIFFERENT ISSUE: I'm trying to install the NEW VERSION Musescore 4 which is FAILING to successfully install - instead I'm getting the following attached Error-message (file) ...SEE BELOW indicating! I was then trying to play the previously - properly installed Ver 3.6.2 however, after the unsuccessful 4.1 Ver installation, even the good Ver 3.6.2 started NOT-working correctly during playing-back of good MIDI-files getting distorted sound of the file/s ...!

Could anyone help me to restore the following:
- CORRECT ('normal') functioning of the PREVIOUS Ver 3.6.2
- RESOLVE the Graphic Library ISSUES while trying to install the NEW Ver 4.1 (SEE the attached file below!).
I'd greatly appreciate your HELP in resolving the problems of your great MUSESCORE Software ASAP ...!

In advance - many thanks for help in resolving these issues!
Tony H.

And have you checked that you have the LATEST graphics drivers as Windows suggests? The drivers are for your version of Windows and your hardware and are from Microsoft and/or the manufacturers/resellers.

What version Windows anyway? How much RAM, what processor etc.?

Hi 'underquark':
...and thanks for your offer to help; I'm running Windows 10/64-bit on Pentium D - I checked Windows Updates and have been recently also updated ...
- Can you tell me what are the MINIMUM System requirements for running the Version 4 of Musescore, it looks that this Ver 4 is somehow 'too fussy' ?!?
- How is the best way to repair the Ver 3.6.2 which has been affected by the Installation failure of Ver 4 ...!
Any further suggested to take ...?

The Minnimum requirement to run Musescore 4.1.1 is the following,

System requirements

ATTRIBUTE MINIMUM RECOMMENDED

Operating system: Windows 10 or higher, macOS 11 or higher, Linux distros released in 2020 or later, with fuse2 installed to run the AppImage

Storage (SSD): 500 MB free space (15 GB for Muse Sounds)

Memory (RAM): 8 GB (16 GB recommended)

Processor (CPU): 4 cores (8 recommended)

Display: 1280x720 pixel resolution, or scaled equivalent

See bottom of download page https://musescore.org/en/download

Installing Musescore 4.1.1 should not have affected your installation of Musescore 3.6.2, I have both installed and they are independent of each other, in fact I also have Musescore 2.3.2 installed on my system as well, I think I installed it for backward compatibility with old scores, so that I could load old musescore scores in 2.3.2 and then export them as MusicXML and then load the MusicXML score into Musescore 3.6.2.

Do a scan just to make sure you don't have a virus or malware infecting your computer. You can get a free version of Malwarebytes for Windows 10 at https://www.malwarebytes.com/. If you are having trouble finding the link to the free Malwarebytes, here it is https://www.malwarebytes.com/api/downloads/mb-windows?filename=MBSetup… after you do a virus and malware scan, uninstall Musescore 4 because it may be partially installed, also uninstall Musescore 3.6.2 and then reinstall Musescore 3.6.2 and then install the latest edition of MuseHub and install Musescore 4.1.1 from MuseHub along with the Muse Sounds.

Hi:
Well - after some time spent in finding the 'good' older Ver 3.2.6 of Musescore and re-installing the 'crippled' installation, I was able to restore the 'normal' decent performance of the previous version BUT - I've noted that the Musescore Software is somewhat 'too-sensitive' to the required Graphics Library to avoid crushes ...I've checked my Graphics Update through Microsoft test of available driver but they as usually come with an excuse that the 'best available driver is already selected & installed' ...which sometimes I find to be questionable!

But anyway - why Musescore does NOT offer downloading the required 'Graphics Library set' for use with the Version 4 - I'm sure a lot of other creators of similar Software offer to their customers such a simple help IF THIS PARTICULAR LIBRARY is so critical for satisfactory Software performance ...?!? I was trying to find the source of it around but was NOT able to find it even in the 'Microsoft resources' - does anyone know WHERE can it be downloaded, please?

Please share your computer specs. Windows would only have general drivers. For better drivers, you need to go to the manufacturer website. But I don't believe that drivers are your problem. MU4 requires a fairly powerful computer. Did you reinstall the OS at some point? When was the last time you cleared the cache? Either those drivers should have already been a part of your system or there might be a problem with your system.

Hi bobjp:
Thanks for trying to help.
Let's just summarize my running various repairs steps:
- I've reinstalled successfully the Musescore Ver 3.6.2 after it 'somehow' got interfered by my efforts to Update the Musescore to Ver 4.1: the ONLY error message explaining the installation crush has been due 'outdated Graphics Library' required by Musescore 4.1 installation - PLEASE REVIEW MORE IN DETAIL my enclosed Screenshot Clip above-!!!
- because I could NOT actually detect the presence of the 'missing' type of 'Graphics-Library-file/s' in my PC - I now would like to at 'least-to-try' to manage to find & download & successfully install THIS REQUIRED 'Graphics-Library-file/s' into my PC - just to see what happens ...! From my experience with this type of troubleshooting, sometimes that's all what needed: BUT my MAJOR problem now is to FIND this Graphics Library for DOWNLOADING (!) because at this point I'm NOT blaming the Programmer-creator for the failure of a successful installation because I do NOT have (probably ?!?) one of the major requirement for a successful Software installation, right ? ... OR - am I missing something ...? Could at least the Author of the Musescore Software help me to FIND & DOWNLOAD this 'missing type of Graphics-Library-file/s', please ...?!? - by the way: does ANYONE HAVE the Link to the Musescore Manufacturer - that's should NOT BE ANY secret right?
In advance - MANY THANKS to anyone offering this basic help to me ...!

I don't believe that you actually have a graphics problem. If you have W10, everything should be there. Why did you get that error? Who knows. I have put MU4 on several computers. Some vastly underpowered. Some several years old. Not once have I seen that error. That's why I asked about your system. Just because the installer couldn't find the graphics information, doesn't mean it isn't there. There could be some other problem. I've seen Registry problems cause this kind of thing. You were asked about a virus scan.
But it won't make any difference unless you have an SSD and 8gb ram. Just for starters.
